Global PC Market Rebounds with 1.5% Growth in Q1: IDC

The global PC market has bounced back in the first quarter of this year, registering a 1.5% growth compared to the same period last year, according to preliminary data from International Data Corp (IDC). With 59.8 million shipments recorded, the market has returned to pre-pandemic levels, marking the end of a two-year decline.

Global PC Market Rebounds with 1.5% Growth

The resurgence in PC demand is attributed to a refresh cycle for devices purchased during the pandemic, coupled with the availability of AI-capable PCs. These advanced capabilities are expected to drive further demand, especially as newer AI PCs hit the market later this year.

Economic factors such as high-interest rates and inflation had previously deterred businesses and consumers from upgrading their systems, contributing to the decline in PC demand over the past two years. However, easing inflation and favorable year-over-year comparisons have facilitated growth, particularly in the Americas and Europe.

Despite the overall growth, the PC market in China, the largest consumer of desktop PCs, continues to struggle, with a preference for laptops over desktops becoming increasingly apparent.

IDC Anticipates the Recovery to Persist

Looking ahead, IDC anticipates the recovery to persist in 2024, fueled by the launch of AI PCs and the refresh cycle among commercial buyers.

Lenovo Group maintains its position as the market leader with a 23% share, followed by HP and Dell Technologies with approximately 20% and 15.5% market share, respectively. Apple also saw a notable increase in shipments, recording a 14.6% rise and securing an 8.1% market share in the first quarter.
